About this deal

A few months ago, a friend asked me to recommend a record player. This friend knows and loves music as much as I do; when he visits, we spend our time drinking wine and listening to records. Last time, it was Scott Walker, Fela, Joni Mitchell, Jacques Brel, Burzum, and both glorious sides of The Chronic.

Crucially, the Planer 2 is fitted with Rega’s new RB220 tonearm, which features ultra-low-friction ball bearings, a stiffer bearing housing and an automatic bias setting, making it virtually plug-and-play. The Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO is a fine piece of engineering that will fit well in the highest quality HiFi systems

More importantly, it sounds great, as its clean aesthetics carry over to a very clean and balanced midrange with just a touch of sonic warmth. The excellent-sounding midrange is accompanied with by slightly weighty bass and polite treble, making for many hours of listening enjoyment. So you claim you are "an analog guy". Yet you stated "digital absolutely crushes vinyl". Who doesn't know this digital ABC: 70+dB channel separation? As a TRUE "analog guy", I would never bad mouth vinyl in this public venue. Your ego made you forget this forum is for turntables, not for digital. Pro-Ject's TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) technology now helps to damp the resonance completely and also increases the weight to 1,7 kg. Because the TPE is mounted to the inside of the platters rim, the moving energy will also create a flywheel effect. The result is an even quieter and noiseless operation with less wow and flutter. Not only does this turntable deliver sound that will make your soul groove to the music, but it also comes pretty much ready to play out-of-the-box.” – Novo Press

Whether or not the Debut Carbon Evo is the best record player for you might be decided by whether you prefer its fuller, more relaxed character or the more spritely and lean alternative of its main competitor. I was half tempted to have a change but the sound from the Evo was just right for my ears and set-up it seemed silly to change. That's why I only spent dirt cheap money for streaming: for convenience rather than sound quality !!!

So please advise me on my placement of my 2-way KEF standspeakers: being 5ft 10.5 ft between centre to centre of both speaker boxes, 10ft 2inch from from centre of each loudspeaker box to my ears. Both loudspeaker boxes are toed-in direcly toward my ears. Finally, the phono output cable is detachable (and therefore upgradeable?) with a grounding wire alongside it. There is also a clear plastic dust cover included that slots on the plinth elegantly. Quality A classic signature feature of the original model that has been carried through is the carbon tonearm. Usually found on more expensive turntables, this provides significant benefits to the sound quality. Being stiffer than steel, the tonearm is more rigid, which helps reproduce the music more accurately. In short, the music sounds tighter, punchier and more detailed.

You disagree, right? Got to gut to dig Gordon Holt out & challenge him face to face ???? I wouldn't mind acting as your witness. The Debut Carbon EVO focuses on the core aspects that make a turntable sound great. Technically correct design - expert craftsmanship - handmade in the EU. Redesigned motor suspensionBut if there’s one feature we can see dictating many people’s decision, it’s Pro-Ject’s addition of a speed-change switch. At least, it more than makes up for the minor premium you have to pay to go for the Debut over the Planar 2; at best, for those with as many 45s as LPs in their collection, it could be the difference between how much you play certain records at all.
